MOST COMMON CAUSES OF DEPRESSION
INTRODUCTION
As we discussed, what is depression, we realized that we have been living with misconceptions. Depression hits more than causal ups and downs. It hit me in the mid of lockdown. In those days I was also reading a book about self-love. It took me closer to the causes of mental illness. In that book author says, she had huge insecurity about body, insecurity about weight gain. She wasn't feeling well for a long time. Later she concludes, it's because she grew up with such a 'perfect body' imagination. Such ugly definitions of beauty, ugly beauty standards were hammered on her mind in childhood, due to which she was later developed into an inferiority complex due to physical appearance. And along with her body inferiority complex she concludes lots of factors contribute to the causes of depression, the process of depression, and the relationship between inferiority complex and depression. So with the help of a book and personal experiences, we shortlisted some most common causes of depression as follows:
DEPRESSION : SLOW BUT STEADY PROCESS
In short, she says, depression is not sudden. It might have started much earlier than you think. It grows with time like you are blowing a balloon and it's gonna burst one day! A particular thought, a particular belief you have kept in your mind for so long, then after some years some contrast thoughts or a contrast consequences will break that path and the whole game will change. Then you suddenly can see the things you have ruined due to it. So it's a "slow but steady" process. It process is not sudden, the realization of the process is sudden.
MY EXPERIENCE
I remember my story, I was in my first year of graduation, Engineering. I never wanted to do it. Still, I was trying well, scoring well. Things were going well, but I wasn't feeling confident enough. And when I got realized the above theory. I realized, when I was in school, I was one of the toppers. Everything was under my control. Whatever I was above to do, I was prepared. So I was always confident enough since things were going in my way. Then I got into engineering, unexpectedly. It broke my plans, it broke my belief which I kept for a long time. Now the things were not in my control. Technology has always been my weakness, so it created a doubt inside me, whether will it work or won't. Before I was habituated with the favorable circumstances, but this time I wasn't! This produced inferiority inside me which further leads to depression in lockdown.
CAUSES
So whenever you feel depressed, even though if life is going normal, it could be the call of your past, which has been affecting you but didn't get enough attention from you. The causes can be:
1) Depression due to early childhood trauma
2) Depression due to family problems, due to an unbalanced family environment
3) Depression due to change in favorable circumstances
4) Depression due to high expectations, and due to breakage of a strong belief
